(Unexpected) Babies!!!
Hey guys! I came home to a neat surprise today.
I happen to keep six snails of varying species, just for funsies. When I was checking in on them today, I found somewhere between 100 and 250 eggs!
I moved them to their own little box, and tried to pose the suspected mom with them, but that didn't work out so well, snail stuff is reeeeaaally small and sadly I dont have a macro cam. Here's the best of my attempts anyway.
Do we have any other snail keepers here by chance?

Re: (Unexpected) Babies!!!
Interesting, are snails used for anything besides food for monitors?

Re: (Unexpected) Babies!!!
These ones are probably too small to be a snack for anything besides a pink tongued skink.
What is the use of a pet? ^__^
Really they're just to make my plant-only, moss-focused terrariums more interesting looking.

I remember kissing one in science camp, and they told us if any humans touch them they will die from our oils or whatever. Is this true?

Not if the little dude had access to water. It only hurts them if you've got something strong on you, soap/perfume/etc, but if you're clean (and they can reach moisture afterwards) they'll be ok. Sounds like something they'd tell kids to keep them safe.
Sure I'll take some pictures. They're just re-used plastic things.... the little things they sell snakes in.

Re: (Unexpected) Babies!!!
Why not leave the eggs in the tank with the rest of them?

Because the ventilation holes are far larger than the eggs, so the babies would be at risk of exiting and dying of exposure D:

Ahh ok thanks for the explanation. That makes a lot of sense. I hope they all hatch out for you

It's best to wash your hands before handling mollusks, frogs, salamanders, or any creature that has delicate skin like that. Sweat and chemicals on our hands can irritate or harm them.
Kissing a snail though - I would have been more worried about the dangers to you, considering that snails and slugs carry salmonella...

Re: (Unexpected) Babies!!!
To the folks asking for folks, maybe in a few weeks.
Looking over the wee moss collections, they're pretty cracked and fragmented now, due to the egg hunt.

Re: (Unexpected) Babies!!!
Update, at least two have hatched so far!
Much too small for my camera though, it seems.
