It's best to wash your hands before handling mollusks, frogs, salamanders, or any creature that has delicate skin like that. Sweat and chemicals on our hands can irritate or harm them.
Kissing a snail though - I would have been more worried about the dangers to
you, considering that snails and slugs carry salmonella...
