some herping finds 2015-16

so it's been along time since i been here! i thought would come back and share few pics from this year and last year. These are just a few of my favorite finds as i get out very often and get to encounter many herps while surveying for endangered ones.

Killer finds! Seeing a ring snake brings back memories of when I found one as a kid while I was in a herping summer camp.

Thanks , indeed i grew up catching these little guys and after all these years i still love seeing them. they are very attractive looking snakes and a bit shy.

It's funny how racers are considered "junk" snakes in the hobby. I have one that lives near my house in a pile of landscape timbers. I see it usually everyday hunting brown anoles. If I don't scare it off, I watch for awhile. They're always parascoped looking around. Very active and inquisitive.

It is kinda funny because i don't know how such a smart and always alert snake can be considered "junk" They are one of my favorite snakes here in PA. I lvoe how they hunt with their heads up off the ground. In my opinion they have a great personality they always know where their predators face is lol. I suppose that is a reason they maybe considered junk.

I find them very cool, their about the only snake that can adapt to us developing land. I refer to them as "junk" because people don't keep them as commonly. Like how garter snakes are viewed in the hobby. Nothing wrong with them but not pretty or exotic enough to breed in captivity for most hobbyists. I'm sure most persons first encounter with a snake was either a racer or garter.

agreed they are not commonly in pet trades or breed by breeders to my knowledge. They are something special i enjoy every encounter with them! Yeah likely so though if a racer sees you they are usually gone in a flash lol. A lot of garters here i can't imagine ppl not seeing them or Nerodia which is super common in this city. I get so many tips on " coppers " that always turn out being northern waters!
