How so? Where do you find the total differences?

Yeah this is the exact mentality people use to justify their stupidity.
Wel said.

As I said, I was playing devil's advocate for a bit. Not that I condone that gif or any video of barbaric feeding of any animal.

Now that I know that mice aren't a normal part of their diet, I'm disgusted even further. This is no different than video that went viral of some boy feeding his burm a kitten.
Mice are a part of many aquatic animals diet just not a staple. Now a duckling is like potatoes to a snapper. They just gotta have 'em.

If you don't want to hash it out, I understand. I just see a lot of people creating artificial situations for jollies and justifying it with "bu-bu-but NATURE!" when it's simply not. I also think we should try to hold ourselves to a higher standard than that evil witch mother nature. While mimicking her in some ways is good, in others we can do much better by our animals and our hobbies. For instance, I do anything I can to prevent undue suffering in the feeders that have to die for my hobby, and don't make my snakes prove their suitability for survival by facing off against higher predators.

Re: Brutal... o_O

Thanks for clarifying. From what was posted earlier, I had come to the conclusion that mice weren't a large part of a snapper's diet. I stand corrected and have learned some stuff.

Can I then safely assume that captive snapping turtles don't need to have such barbaric feedings?

Exactly what I said above. Vets and medicine, our herps not facing off against predators, etc.

Oh....my.... I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. "That evil witch mother nature".....

Nature takes care of itself. You don't need to hold yourself to a higher standard than her. If people would even make it to that standard without surpasing it things would be just fine.

Mice are not a large part of a snappers diet in the wild. I have seen them fall ot of trees and get chewed apart by smaller fish ( they were either blue gill or crappy) I have also seen large mouth bass eat them. I am sure a snapper would pick one off the top no problem.

I think you're reading a little too much into your personal personification of nature. I would not like to see someone keeping animals that just shrugged and said 'Nature takes care of itself" when an animal was ailing or wounded. Things malinger and die and starve all the time in nature. That doesn't mean we should allow it to happen when we have chosen to keep an animal in our care. Being at one with nature can't be used to excuse abuse or neglect.

One of the best quotes I have read on here!

I also think you failed to notice the tongue-in-cheek nature of the evil witch mother nature statement. I hate the idea of 'mother nature' and so tend to be flippant about trying to embody the natural world in that way.

Clearly that shouldn't happen. And clearly if we choose to keep an animal in our care that isn't nature, and therefor an argument being blamed on "nature takes care of itself" is invalid.

Yeah but.....

Nursing animal with inferior genetics is very irresponsible. What happens when those crap genetics ( which never should've survived) make it back into the gene pool?

Ailing and wounded and crap genetics are not the same thing. Where did I advocate breeding such animals? I have no problem with culling. The only assertion I made was that just because brutal things might happen in nature, doesn't mean we can use it as an excuse to engage in brutality as keepers.
