Nature takes care of itself. You don't need to hold yourself to a higher standard than her. If people would even make it to that standard without surpasing it things would be just fine.

I think you're reading a little too much into your personal personification of nature. I would not like to see someone keeping animals that just shrugged and said 'Nature takes care of itself" when an animal was ailing or wounded. Things malinger and die and starve all the time in nature. That doesn't mean we should allow it to happen when we have chosen to keep an animal in our care. Being at one with nature can't be used to excuse abuse or neglect.

Clearly that shouldn't happen. And clearly if we choose to keep an animal in our care that isn't nature, and therefor an argument being blamed on "nature takes care of itself" is invalid.

Yeah but.....
Nursing animal with inferior genetics is very irresponsible. What happens when those crap genetics ( which never should've survived) make it back into the gene pool?

Ailing and wounded and crap genetics are not the same thing. Where did I advocate breeding such animals? I have no problem with culling. The only assertion I made was that just because brutal things might happen in nature, doesn't mean we can use it as an excuse to engage in brutality as keepers.

I realize you didn't advocate breeding inferior animals. I just meant that statement about animals starving and wanted to show the flip side.

My take was they meant an animal that was hurt in captivity, or got sick due to improper husbandry, not a genetically inferior animal.

I'm just going to pick this out of the posts and talk about it.
Agreed.
tit, and agreed.
Now, as a person with horrible genetics, i'm not going to breed. Fair is fair. Not going to inbreed my animals and pass on inferior genetics along with pretty colors, either.
*sits back*
