My take was they meant an animal that was hurt in captivity, or got sick due to improper husbandry, not a genetically inferior animal.

I realize you didn't advocate breeding inferior animals. I just meant that statement about animals starving and wanted to show the flip side.

Re: Brutal... o_O
Wow, came back to see my post spurred a lot of controversial discussion. A lot of interesting takes on it.
Just so everyone knows - I was shocked when I initially saw it, and do not condone what the person did. You know he filmed it just so he could make a video to shock people with.
As for the whole nature debate, I understand that yes, this kind of stuff happens all the timein the wild, but I believe that we should not be the cause of it. Humans already cause enough damage as it is.
This person is lacking something called compassion, one emotion that is supposed to set us apart from animals. Compassion, that thing that makes you put an animal it out of its misery if it's suffering, like finding a dying animal on the road that's been hit by a car. Even though euthanasia is a terrible thing to have to perform, it's best for the animal if it's in pain.
I HATED having to euthanize some mice a while back, even though my method was quick and humane. I was afraid that I would make a mistake and I would actually cause the poor thing to suffer for a few seconds. (My hubby was actually amused by me, wandering around the house all upset trying to talk myself into doing it)
Why are there so many people who actually take joy in doing things like that? It's not natural to enjoy another creature's suffering.
Also, why do people get fines and go to jail for cruelty to say, DOGS or CATS but not for cruelty to mice, fish, reptiles, etc?
Anyway, I'm rambling and ranting and probably not making much sense, it's late and I'm tired, my brain is not working as well as it should.

^^^ This did make me lol.
Good night all.
PS: It would only be OK if the turtle would not eat anything other than live mice and was starving itself. I highly doubt this was the case.

Something to think about. It's not natural to enjoy another creatures suffing? Why do so many Felines seem to enjoy playing with suffering prey in the wild? Where do you draw the line between insignificant life forms significant ones ? If a mosquito lands on you do you not swat it? If a mouse runs across your floor do you not try to step on it, or set traps to kill or possibly maim it?

A lot of pet store owners would probably be in jail right now lol. But I completely agree...

I'm just going to pick this out of the posts and talk about it.
Agreed.
tit, and agreed.
Now, as a person with horrible genetics, i'm not going to breed. Fair is fair. Not going to inbreed my animals and pass on inferior genetics along with pretty colors, either.
*sits back*

I wasn't referring to animals when I said that it's not natural to enjoy other creature's suffering. I was referring to people. It is not natural for us to be like that.
Also, yes, I get your point. Yes, I probably would buy traps if a mouse was loose in my home. Not because I enjoy killing them but because they damage your belongings and pose a danger to you and your family.
(disease, fires caused by chewing wires, etc.) I would, however, buy traps that have the best success rate of killing an animal quickly and humanely. I am NOT a promoter of those glue traps that cause animals to suffer for hours or even days before they finally die from exhaustion or hunger. IMO they should be illegal.
Also, mosquitos are parasites that spread disease, and their bites cause allergic reactions, etc.
Now let me go to bed. I keep saying I'm going to bed then I hear the *bling* of another email notification on my tablet. Curiosity, I hate you!
