Re: Brutal... o_O
If they're targeting us, no need to give them extra fuel by posting videos saying "awesome! look at my pets ripping animals in half! Har har har, this excites me!"

Re: Brutal... o_O
PETA has NO relevance to this thread.
It's about people who take a part of the hobby that we partake in to keep our animals healthy. Others tend to glorify it for their own, immature and sick needs.

I agree with Aaron (for once) on this one...
This video is purely for shock factor and isn't benefiting this hobby at all.

Re: Brutal... o_O
I'm going to play devil's advocate a bit. Would you guys have responded if this would have been filmed in the wild?
I have very little experience with snappers and I don't know what their diet consists of in the wild besides trying to eat me if I get to close (lol). If mice are a part of their natural diet, what if this snapper will only eat live? I have one snake that will only eat live. Since it's a king and she's fed small enough meals that can't do much harm to her, I don't press the issue. However, I don't take videos of her eating live for the world to see, even though watching her hunt is interesting IMO. She's quick and doesn't play around.
That being sad, yes I think the gif is brutal and more than likely made for a shock value. The internet can be and is a perverse place. People with all kinds of morbid interests upload and view all kinds of stuff that should be left in private.

Re: Brutal... o_O
there so many wild animal videos that aren't appropriate because people get worked up about animal cruelty. the point here is that it's intentional. i think it's nature, but it's also man in this case, doing something they know will be shocking. that's it.
anyway, korbin said tit.

I'd always read that Snappers were omnivores, munching on aquatic vegetation and aquatic critters with only a few small birds and mammals making it into their diet. And judging by the fact that snappers are voracious eaters of all things (including carrion), I doubt that it'd eat "only live".
I have no issue if live feeding is necessary for the animal's well being but I highly doubt that was the case with this turtle.

That's kind of like me posting a video of my dogs mauling a pony to death in a confined area, and then asking "Oh, so you people would be against african wild dogs killing a zebra in nature?"
//My dogs ONLY eat live ponies. I tried switching them to kibble, I promise.

Yes. Glorification is glorification. At least, most wild videos have an educational side to things.

Re: Brutal... o_O
Revenant, totally different. And I said earlier I'm ignorant about snappers so I don't know what their natural diet would consist of, besides me when I had to remove them from being close to my house and place them toward the back of my property.
As I said, I was playing devil's advocate for a bit. Not that I condone that gif or any video of barbaric feeding of any animal.
Now that I know that mice aren't a normal part of their diet, I'm disgusted even further. This is no different than video that went viral of some boy feeding his burm a kitten.
