Re: Ive never posted before so i thought id say hey.

I've never understood why people that own hots have a tendency to think they are the only ones that do it right I understand that its serious and dangerous I get that ther is a way things should be done but when someone takes the plunge shouldn't the idea be to share and help he already has the snake and chances are he's not getting rid of it because some guy or( jerk in his eyes) on the net told him how stupid he was

Again i am open to any information you have regarding the ownership of hots, simply because you have more experience then i do. I read somewhere you had 10+ years. Now if you want to continue to assume i shouldn't own any then be my guest but keep it to yourself, and try not to loose any sleep over it. Also take into consideration i am going to school to work with these animals (both venomous and non venomous) so i am going to gain experience along the way. It is a dangerous profession but so is being a soldier in the United States Army, but im sure you wouldn't go as far to say that they should stop what there doing simply because its dangerous. I apologize for using profanity directed towards you, but none of your posts will change my mind on my ownership of dangerous animals.
i hope you stick around. lots to learn and you will (eventually) have some fun around here! yes, i was being harsh on you, but only because i didn't want you to have such a relaxed attitude towards a hot - whether it be a copperhead or a brown snake, venom is venom and it's all bad. i just want you to respect their power. if you do that, you are taking a step in the right direction. believe it or not, i was trying to look out for you and anyone else that may enter your household. i also applaud you for furthering your education in regards to these incredible animals we all love.

that being said.... i am glad you started off with a copperhead. while it is true that most bites do not end in death, and a lot of times no antivenin is administered, you never know how YOUR body will react to their venom.

in another thread i mentioned that i had kept venomoids for 10 years, but i have over 15 years total experience with hots. i no longer keep them. yes, everybody starts out somewhere, but it took me a good 5 years after even WANTING a hot, before i actually got one.

i accept you apology, thank you. i know you got carried away, as did i. when are we going to see photos?????

i can't speak for anyone else, but i don't think owning hots is a good idea, period. i don't own hots and when i did, i constantly worried about liability issues and such.

agreed. in this particular situation, i really took offense to KD35WIN.AS.ONE's 'lax approach, and his justification for owning a copperhead didn't really make sense. i lectured, informed and probed.... he stated nothing can change his mind. so be it. now we need to make sure he keeps himself and everyone else safe around his snake.

as odd as it may seem, it really is a rite of passage to own a hot. from what i can tell, there are very few here who own hots, therefore, i can understand certain behavior from myself or others may seem harsh or downright rude. it does with the territory.

I looked back on my first reply to you and i can see how you easily came to that conclusion. Me stating that i didnt fear the snake is a stretching of the truth, to explain further i dont fear it into comparison with a Black Mamba. Ive been around one in my life and i was so impressed with its unpredictability and ferociousness, that to be honest it made me fear more common venomous snakes less, which isnt a good thing ill admit. With that being said; in reality im much more uptight about safety, then i appear to be when writing a response on here.

What venomoids did you own? Ive always been fascinated with them due to the awe factor of being able to get so close to something so dangerous (in its past) Did you ever handle them, like you would a colubrid?

I just finished school last week, im moving back home were my animals are kept this week. Its only a 35 min drive and one county over, so i was home every weekend to maintain them. I should have some pictures up of Him by the end of this week, or sooner cause i may have to come down for a job interview early this week.

no way. they are still venomous species and they are still aggressive. not to mention, they still have fangs!

KD35WIN, I love your carpet...its HUGE! LOL I wish there was a better shot of your Rainbow. Their rainbow color when the sun hits them just right is amazing. Lucky that you have the room for two large-ish snakes!

Yea that is understandable some people really do take offense to people obtaining venomoids. Sure its unnatural but its harmless to the snake if done right. And i respect your choice not to handle them, as your right they still are dangerous. Im not going to lie it would be a temptation to me haha.

imo, the venomoid process is the same as sterilizing your cat or dog. i've seen it done first hand.

Surely its more like removing your dog or cats teeth? A Sterilised animal can still fight/defend itself - a venomous snake with no venom has had its main source of defense/attack removed.

this is for the record, i do not nor will i ever agree with taking venom apparatus out of any animal, its cruel and will always be unjustified in my opinion
