Timber rattler from today

Nice little timber my brothers and I found while on the bike trail. This pic is after I moved it out of the middle of the trail using the handy collapsible snake hook I carry for this purpose. Sorry about the quality I took them with my Droid.

Re: Timber rattler from today

It was huffing and puffing more than the big bad wolf Didn't strike at all while I was moving it though.

From what I have Seen they are more bark than bight and want to be left alone. But pack a punch when need be.

Beautiful snake! That bulge could be lunch, gravid, or stress-inflation...no way to tell with one quick look? Funny how they never appreciate being moved off roads & such, LOL!

Re: Timber rattler from today

Judging by what I can see of the tail, this is a male snake.

Lucky you!

Where did you get a collapsable snake hook, and how small does it collapse?

I'll answer that for you. Petco, 7dollars, the size of a pen with a hook on the end. I found mine on the clearance rack thinking they would have something similar to vermiculite but all I found was an opened bag of imatation vermiculite and a snake hook by it. Score

Sounds like it would snap with little weight on it.

Try Midwest, (tongs.com), They have collapsable hooks and tongs that are made to handle the weight. They sell only professional quality products.
