sav nail problem
Hi! Me again. My sav had perfect toes and nails all razor sharp, but today I noticed his right index nail is broken off. I don't think his nail feel off his finger, but it looked like it snapped off cuzz I can still see the base of his nail. His left thumb nail is missing too, I couldn't get a close look to see if it fell off or broke off. He has no shedding problems as his heat and humidity is great and he's always covered in mud when coming out of his burrow and rarely see any unshed skin, maybe 1-2 days I can see it but they fall off real fast, even all his toes skin.
so. Will his snapped off nail grow back? Is this a sign of improper husbandry or food? If his left thumb did fall right off his finger then it probably won't ever grow back, if that's the case what did I do wrong?
Thanks

Re: sav nail problem
It will be fine and if only the nail broke, it will grow back fine. Likely it just got caught on something and broke.
Deadly, I think he sold one.

Re: sav nail problem
Yeah I sold my other dood cuzz my current guy bullies him daily, wrestling him and riding him. He literally rides him and does a leg lock on him like those UFC fighters, and making him give him a piggie back ride around the cage. Then he would bite him too, and once he got a hold of him real good and he did death rolls, like a crocodile. I didn't know savs do death rolls on other creatures.
Anyways, I listed him online for at least a month and finally someone with a good cage took him.
Yeah I know one of his nails broke off, but the other one I can't really get a good look so I hope it's also just broken off and not fell off.
In case it did fall off and not break off.. what causes lizards nails to fall off their fingers?

Hi, I`ve never heard of low humidity causing claws to fall off, how does that happen, and how low a humidity level will result in that (or do you mean if the unshed skin constricts the blood flow and the toes may be lost)?

Re: sav nail problem
My guy has never had shedding problem that I could tell, the humidity in mid tank is 65% avg, and soil is moist especially when he's under the burrow. I really hope his nail didn't fall off due to humidity or any reasons... I was told that humidity should suffice, which is probably true since he sheds fine.. unless it's nutritional problems... I'll wait a couple weeks to see if that the thumb nail grows back, if it does then I know it didn't fall off but just snapped off.. although I can't think of why his nail could break either... maybe he was digging and it got cause on the log?

The latter, I suppose if it happened close enough to the claw then only the tip of the toe could fall off and it might look like it was just the claw, but I agree I don't know why only the claw would fall off, apart from injury.

Hi, the claw will take several months to regrow, especially if it`s broken close to where it appears on the end of the toe. I expect the monitor simply broke it, it`s quite common and has nothing to do with the humidity.

Re: sav nail problem
thx. I'll wait a few months and see if it grows back haha. On the side note. Have you ever seen monitors that are missing the entire nail, as if someone plucked the root of the nail off of the fingers? That's what I'm hoping did NOT happen to my guy's thumb. But I could never get a real close look at that thumb so only time will tell..

Re: sav nail problem
If the nail was damaged, the toe could have simply shed the nail..
