Serious question.....
Ok , this is only for people who have tried it, or have a serious understanding of the inner workings of it. So basically, everyone thinks they can run a reptile business, get rich, etc. etc.
I read Aaron's theoretical business plan and how much initial investment it would take to see decent returns on 5 years or so. Heres the deal:
My dad drives me nuts, all day, every day. However, he is a business man and would like me to stick around soooo...
He told me to start breeding reptiles to make some money (A bribe for me not to leave the country). I told theres no money in it unless you invest big, he told me how much, I told him 40 g's and he said ok lets do it....(hes serious, if it will make money hes in)
Anyways, would you stay and live with your dad if he was driving you clinically insane, and go for it. Or leave.
Again, I don't want anyone's stupid theories if they have no experience because everything sounds good in your head doesn't mean its practical. Only looking for answers from people who have tried it, have experience in it. (no it won't be a full time job)
Thanks.

Re: Serious question.....
My dad is a narcissist and a oral pain in my ***, he wants me to join his company and potentially make midrange 6 figures... I turned him down.
To ME mental peace can't be bought, and its my goal.
I'm leaving Canada partially to be rid of him

Wow, for a second there I thought I was reading something that I posted. Seriously...if you just replace the word Canada, EVERYTHING else is the same

Re: Serious question.....
If it means that you will be unhappy and under stress I wouldn't bother. Plus when breeding snakes it is necessary to have some sort of passion for it, and if that isn't there then there is no point.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to do it. The part I don't want to do is stay here with my dad.
And I'm not talking about only snakes :P
I would love to have a massive reptile room that sustains itself and makes decent cash on the side....
But like stephen said, you can't put a price on happiness/peace and quiet / freedom haha

Re: Serious question.....
Don't do it. It would be a partnership from hell. Also no matter what anyone says prices seem to be coming down across the board.

I don't need convincing not to do it , trust me I already know how badly it could end up...
I was hoping a few people who were saying yes could give some good reasons. haha

Not a freakin chance!!
If you had parents (Dad) who was supportive, constructive and treated you emotionally like you mattered then maybe.
If he is already driving you nuts then run from this deal!!
If he lends you the $40K he will likely treat you like he now owns you out right, question everything you do, think, say, propose, forget, like, want, etc, etc. For $40..?
I am good with money and my Dad at 84 came to me asking if I would manage his for him so that my sister would be OK when he was gone. ($256k) I was told half would be mine and I would need to ensure the rest lasted for my sister.
My Dad was also a very, successful business owner, "A" type, etc.
The WEEK that the money came under my management he started treating me as described above. Giant Azz-H0.....
After a year and a half it was affecting every part of my life and almost cost me my relationship with my wife. I ended up having to tell him to take him money and shove it so far up is @ that he could taste it. I will get nothing and Im ok with that. Not worth it.
I actually told friends that my dad died and that was what had me messed up. I transferred the $$ out and sent him a copy of two of the condolence cards I received.
Life is too short! You sound like you are a young man. If you have drive and focus you will actually accomplish MORE without people like that than with them and their money.
For context on the right kind of relationship that would make this a "GO":
When my wife originally left after finishing Univ she said to her Dad..."are you going to miss me?" His response was:
"Yes Im going to miss you. Not just becasue I love you, but because I really like you" And his actions back that up!! (My father in law is amazing)
Anyway, if he is already driving you insane....and you are thinking about borrowing $40 as start up capital so he can keep you at home by giving you a head start on something you really want? (holy crap)
There is no way that will end well.
My
$0.02
Good luck,
Chris

Re: Serious question.....
Lol my dad isn't hitler. Its just the way he lives is a very foreigner life style, Arabs have a different way of dealing with their children, maybe stephen can relate. We are always butting heads, but he doesn't order me around very much, hes just really hard to live with, like a very annoying room mate more than a dictator. Anyways, I sort of already decided I wasn't going to do it before I posted, but keep the opinions coming.

Re: Serious question.....
My dad beat the living crap out of me and my sis, his father is a pedophile... I live in a very traditional Arabic family, but they have their own flavor of nuts and I chose to separate myself from that insanity.

Re: Serious question.....
Can your dad's adopt me and give me a job making 6 figures?
I wouldn't do it because I don't do business with family very often. It's a recipe for disaster.
