GTP for free

I got a free jayapura GTP (almost free :P) from a P'Oed dad because his son was neglecting it. Its still a neonate and isn't in great shape. I paid for the exoterra he came in and that was basically it (and they delivered it to my house haha) . He already fed and is an active little demon snake so thats good. He has some stuck shed but its not horrible. He's also pretty small for the amount of time the kid said he had him (doesn't look like hes grown at all actually). I'll post some pics of the little guy in a bit. I don't wanna hear it about quarantine, because theres nothing else in the room hes in, and I don't have any other snakes at the moment anyways :P so yes it is a "nice quarantine enclosure"

Re: GTP fo free

I switched out the red bulb for a ceramic. Humidity kinda high still , temp gun showed 90 under the ceramic, 87 rest of the top and 75 at the bottom I think, cant remember. Still messing with temps honestly.... need a thermostat.

Wont let me upload more than 1 at a time on my phone... thats odd

Re: GTP for free

Humidity is down to 85. Hot side is 88 - 86 (the left is cooler than the right Idk why) and theres a random patch of leaves near the ceramic that are 105 (not comfortable with this, messing with the height of the fixture so it doesn't happen). He can't perch there though but thats just the closet thing to the CME so I took a reading with the temp gun. The bottom half of the enclosure is 77 degrees. This is the lowest wattage CME, I think when it gets a bit warmer I'm going to just switch back to the Red bulb. I have a flourescent computer lamp 12 hours on 12 off on a timer just for photoperiod and so I can see him haha.

Re: GTP for free

A few updated pics, I put got a new thermostat and had to mess with it a bit to find a place to put the thermometer (his enclosure is kinda crowded / hard to work in). He came towards the edge so I took him out, no aggression in hand (this is the first time I've held him and it was unintentional).

Anyways, managed to snap a few pics. You can see some of the stuck shed if you take a close look. Its coming off little by little on the plants and twigs, gonna wait till next shed and see what happens.

Re: GTP for free

Make sure you have your humidity drop throughout the day. GTPs need a dry out period. My GTPs go from 95% in the morning to 45 to 50% at night.

Shouldn't it rise at night? It does dry out in there, I just usually take pics while misting and what not and the hygro is at the bottom where its more moist (sphagnum and 6 inches of bioactive substrate) so it always reads higher. It doesn't ever drop to 50 % though....the low on my hygro says 57% and its usually mid 60's when its 'dry'
