Just Saying Hi

Hello! I'm new to these forums, obviously. I will probably do a lot of lurking and just sitting back and watching what goes on here.
I do not currently own any reptiles, but have owned ball pythons in the past. My last snake was a gorgeous female, just over 5', sweet as could be. My ex and I separated, and he agreed to take care of her while I was finishing up my military training. Apparently he decided to start feeding her live, "because it was more exciting to watch". Anyhow, he left her alone with a rat that she wasn't interested in, and it chewed her head off. Needless to say, I was not very amused.
I haven't owned reptiles in almost 5 years now, but am looking to get back into the world of snakes. I've decided on a red tail boa. But until I am satisfied I know what I need to, and have all of the equipment, I am holding off on the purchase. I'm in no hurry, and have no desire to rush out and get the first setup and snake I see. I'm guessing within a year.
Snakes aren't the only animal I am interested in. I have been very active with local shelters and Pit Bull rescues in the past. And make it a point to stay informed on what is going on with breed specific legislation. I also used to show my Arabian gelding in the Class A Arab circuit. Unfortunately, school, and a child slowed me down considerably. And I now own one cat, but hes not complaining about that. I am in the process of getting my prereqs done and applying for veterinary school as well.
Sorry, this turned into a rather long post. I look forward to being here for a long time to come!

Emily

Re: Just Saying Hi

Welcome to the forum!

That is pretty unfortunate about your previous ball python, just the reason I don't feed live. It's nice to see that you are interested to get another snake though They are so awesome!
