Question Best way to tame JCP

I just got a JCP Very amazing snake.. she is a baby and I know its normal for them to be nippy, So I was wondering what the best way to tame them down is lol. She does ok When I get her out of the cage, Just a little jumpy. But Getting her out is the problem. She likes to bite and strike. What should I do?

Re: Best way to tame JCP

Make a removable perch, remove her perch from the cage and handle her 5-10 minutes a day til she calms down, maybe 1-2 times a week.

Never out her back shortly after she bites you, you don't want her learning that biting equals getting out back into the cage.

Learn to hook train.

Re: Best way to tame JCP

I will be picking up a hook this weekend It has never stoped me from getting her, She usually quits after like the 3rd or 4th time. And I like the perch idea Thank you.

Re: Best way to tame JCP

If you just got it, you should just leave it alone for a few days to a week and let it just get used to its new environment. After that, I totally agree with the hook training idea.

Re: Best way to tame JCP

The perch is what we do here. Works great.

If my 11 yr old can do it, you can too.

Re: Best way to tame JCP

My jcp is about three years old and still will strike constantly getting him out of the viv, once he is out he settles down pretty quickly but the transfer from in viv to out of viv is "fun", to say the least.

Re: Best way to tame JCP

My WLP was extremely aggressive when I first got him, in and out of the Viv. It took about two months of handling, I prefer without gloves so he gets used to the skin to scale contact, and plenty of bloody bites, but his aggression has calmed way down to almost none. I do still find him having the occasional grumpy cage aggression days but has really calmed down. I don't trust him enough to le anyone else handle or to run wild around my body but he's getting better every week

Re: Best way to tame JCP

Aggressive, or defensive? Sorry but this is one word I'm a nazi over, so many keepers have "aggressive" snakes. I've worked with thousands of snakes and I've only met 2 aggressive ones...
Defensive = protecting self, or space
Aggressive = aggressively pursuing you
