Esmerelda Profile
This is Esmerelda, my 2010 Pastel female BP. She is a Halloween baby that I received in 2011 from a breeder in Westbank.
She has quite the disposition; usually meaning that she will snap at you if you get too close! Sometimes she is fine but usually as soon as you put her down she hisses at you non-stop until you put her back. Needless to say she doesn't get out as often as everyone else but she seems to like it better that way. Plus she eats a lot better when she isn't bothered.
Recently she shed and in my opinion, she looks really good for being 2.5 years old. Most pastels tend to "brown-out" over time but she has held her yellows quite nicely even though she has browned over time. Pictures don't do her justice, she is a lot more yellow than what is shown. Enjoy!

Re: Esmerelda Profile
Wow, she is gorgeous! Interesting about the disposition though, the only time I've heard my BP's hiss is if I inadvertently mess with them and haven't noticed their eyes are gray.

Thanks! Yes, she has always been like that. A little bit more defensive...I figure it is because she was at a breeders for a year with little handling before I got her. She has tamed since I got her but she still has her moments Not too worried about it though, she eats well and when she is calm she's really nice.

Re: Esmerelda Profile
Good question....
I measured her a few days go, and my best estimate was 3.5 feet.

Re: Esmerelda Profile
Yeah she decided to go on a 6 month feeding break last year and started back up this year. She has lots of catching up to do after that!
My 2 year old male spider is over 4 ft and he's a solid eater so that would be the difference there

aah, ok i thought she was a little smaller than should be at her age. lol. just curious because i only have one so i dont actually know how fast they *should* grow. i know mine only stopped eating for about 3 months then started right back up and hes getting pretty big im excited but somewhere i read that it takes like 15 years for them to get that big it just doesn't seem right to me.

Yeah, I was a little set back with her fasting but since she has started back up again she eats like a champ. I expect her to be a big girl but probably more so in thickness rather than length. I'm expecting my new scale to come in this week so I can give her a proper weight measurement as well!
I love watching them grow! How old is yours?
I wouldn't say that they are that slow of growers at all. The biggest female I've seen was over 3,000 grams and around 6 feet, and I believe she was 5 years old. I wouldn't expect that from a male BP, but it's definitely possible with a female! I think it all depends on how often they feed and if it's a regular thing, but because BP's are known for their fasting (especially in breeding season) they slow down. Too many variables I tell ya!

Ah fair enough! Did you get him at a pet store?
Awe, he does sound like he was a tiny one! They sure do grow fast though, as long as they are eating anyways My male spider is a decent size for a 2 year old I figure, since he's probably over 1500 grams too. He's a big boy!
