Your probe is in a terrible place, it needs to be where your animal will be.

Oh really , i just followed the instructions , they said to put the heating at the bottem side , with the probe in the middle at the top . When the ladder is in , i will put it where he will lay , thanks for feed back.

Yeah, knowing ambient temps is basically useless info. You need to know the temps where your snake is present, either on the floor, top of a hide or shelf etc...... That is why a temp gun is far better than a gauge thermometer.

Re: Viv so far.

Ok , i have pulled the probe down for now . As it is , this tank is only temporary , the ladder will be here next week . So where ever i end up putting the probe , is this meant to be the basking site , i thought the probe was for the air temps , and the bulb was for the basking site.

Re: Viv so far.

You can put a stat probe wherever you want it is where you measure the temperatures (either with a digital thermometer or temp gun) that is important, it will be easier though to control the temps with the stat probe closer to the heat source. I assume the stat probe hanging from the vent in the top middle is for the AHS heater which you are using for ambient heat but I can't see one for the heat bulb is this also on a stat?

Yes the probe at top middle is for the heater , the red bulb you see is a infra red bulb , this is not on a stat . So am i right in saying that the top air temps should be 25degrees , and the bottom half , 20degrees . That is what the tank is reading now, and should i put the probe near this bulb ? Tracy.

Re: Viv so far.

The ambient seems right but I am surprised that it is only 20 at the bottom with that AHS heater there. How are you measuring your temps and what hot spot temp are you getting on that log under the bulb?

Re: Viv so far.

And this is where he was hanging out this morning , in front of the heater. The instructions said the heater should be 4mm away from the substrate , but i put mine on a little higher up , so i can fit in hide etc .
