What to breed with my 2 females...

I've been thinking about breeding my 2 common boa constrictors. They are too young now and have a couple years to go. But I was just curious what you guys would choose as a male to breed them!

Here is Mystique:

And this is Coraline:

Thanks!!!

I'm afraid I know nothing on boas, especially when it comes to morphs and pairings. But I wanted to say that your two girls are very lovely! I love Coraline's eyes.

Anything co-dominant or dominant to your normal.

A hypo het albino (aka het sunglow) to your albino.

People with actual boa morph knowledge will chime in now

It really depends on what you are wanting to produce, how much you are willing to spend and what you like. If you are going to do it as a hobby make sure your male is something you enjoy.

What strain is your albino? If you have the money I would get a visual male to pair with her as the het market is really bad. As a matter of fact I know a guy that just sold twenty double het snows as normals to a pet store chain.

For you normal I would get at least a co dominant for her that way it will cut down your chances of a normal. I would also recommend not breeding both in the same year unless you don't mind a lot of babies or wholesaling them.

Thanks, very helpful. Its going to be as a hobby. We really only want to breed them each once maybe twice depeding on the outcome...so a male we would enjoy is definately something on our minds.

Unfortunately I have no idea of the strain. As far as I understand its just normal albino? I've been asking around but no help.

Wow sorrry about that guy and his het snows!!!!! Thats a sin.

And we are right on tract with your thinking. They wont be bred together but a year or two apart. I couldnt imagine what to do with all those babies! Would want to make surs they go to a good home.

What kind of visual male would you consider?

Thank you! We stumbled across Coraline when she was a year old, our collection would never be complete without her.

@ Aaron_S. Thats what we were thinking for mystique. The harder desicion is for the albino I think.

Re: What to breed with my 2 females...

It looks like a kahl line albino.

I don't really know many sharp strain albino boas around in the Country.

It probably is a khal as they are the most prevalent but unfortunately you can't tell them apart visually.

@ nicolrae

For a co-dominant male I would get a hypo as one of the genes. They are nice looking animals and really enhance other morphs. For your second gene you can get whatever you please. PC line abys and arabesque boas aren't very common right now but that also makes them a hard sell. Jungles and motleys are still big sellers but tend to cost a bit still. If you decide to add a third gene in choose wisely as the last four I mentioned tend to cancel each other out.

Do you plan on having one or two males? If it's one o would make sure your above snake is a visual albino. I just made a deal for a jungle sunglow het anery (jungle hypo albino) male. He was $800 shipped. It cost a little more but it could service both of your females with nice outcomes.

That's really helpful! We plan on one male, maybe even this guy...

but really helpful advice, thank you! Gives me something to think about.

BEAUTY!!!! Coralines not a sunglow so that is a tough comparison for strain. but regardless you have a good looking boa.

I've always found Sharp strains to retain a lot more burnt orange in the tails and kahl tend to just fade.

Still both great looking animals.

Re: What to breed with my 2 females...

does look more washed out then a sharp would be at that age, so i'd go for khal strain.

personally i would get a motley male, that was het for khal albino, that way could use the one male across both females, and produce motleys, motley albinos, normals, and normal albinos. I am a big fan of the motley gene though.

Or you could go down the hypo route, and get a nice khal sunglow, and then you would produce hypos and normals 100% het albino when bred to the normal. And sunglows and albinos, when bred to the albino.
