Harmful Plants And Wood

I want to make a more natural setup for my snakes. Petco never has a great selections so I was wondering if I could maybe just dry some wood out and sandblast it and use it, and can I just buy some small plants, clean the plant and roots and use them to? I just know some plants are harmful to snakes but don't know what to look out fore

Re: Harmful Plants And Wood

anything that is a philodendron will be ok and anything that says "pothos" on it will be ok to put in the enclosure.. as for drying some wood out.. thats not necessary as long as its not pine or cedar wood you can just put it straight in the enclosure.. the tiny little bugs on it are very beneficial for the habitat.

Re: Harmful Plants And Wood

np... if you ever have any questions about a plant hit up google and ask if its poisonous some are mild like if leaves break the stuff inside is a little toxic or whatever i know some people that use them anyway but personally if it says toxic anywhere i wont use it.. not worth the risk to me.

Here's a great website with info on safe plants for reptiles:

Melissa Kaplan's Plants For Herps Resources

She just updated it recently.

It disappeared from my bookmarks, so I've had to rebookmark it! Fortunately, I remembered her name and found it easily. Whew!

Re: Harmful Plants And Wood

Maybe because I changed computers, from a Dell to a Mac . . . some things didn't transfer properly.

Re: Harmful Plants And Wood

Hmmm . . . you make me realize that I also switched from Firefox to Chrome for the most part, but I'm pretty sure they work together to some extent. But perhaps not completely.

At any rate, we've got the safe plants list bookmarked now!

Do be prepared for the fact that snakes will be the crap out of practically any plant in no time.

Not to negate anyone else's personal experience, but I've never had that be the case with any of my snakes enclosures
