I'm taking a Digital Imaging class..

and I edited this photo for a 'Handcoloring' assignment. I basically masked the background so that only the colors on the snake would show. The colors have not been manipulated.

Re: I'm taking a Digital Imaging class..

I took all the photos with an iPhone 4s. I found those in one of the horses paddocks at a ranch I was working at last year. I also found the snake there. The slugs were in the redwoods near Fort Bragg.

It isn't too difficult. You basically create a quick mask and draw around the subject and zoom in as needed to get the details with smaller brush sizes. once you get the outline done you use the fill tool to fill in the rest of the background. After you turn off quick mask mode you will have a selection of the subject, create a duplicate layer and then apply a layer mask to it. I have a PDF file from my teacher explaining in more detail if you're interested send me your email.

Did you find these more north than Sonoma? Have the unedited pic? Those look distinctly like Psilocybe semilanceata, are in the exact habitat which it is found, and is psychoactive and illegal, so be careful. Although it could also be Panaeolus papilionaceus, just be careful, it's a felony to pick/posses.

It was at a ranch in Graton, I didn't pick them, just took a picture I'll see if I can find the unedited picture.

I have done this too before, really fun to do! The colors "bounce" off the eye more as there is no other colors distracting the cones in our eyes!
