White Lipped Python enclosure question

So I have been keeping Lloyd my white lipped python in an approximately 40x16x16 enclosure that I built because everyone seems to say they need to be kept in large enclosures. However he spends all day every day on the cool side of the cage. I have three hides on the cage, 2 on the warm side and 1 on the cool. He seems to be happy and healthy...well I wouldn't say happy because you know how WTP's are haha but he eats for me and is very active at night. I'm just worried he isn't getting the heat he needs because he spends all day on the cool side. Should I put him in something smaller until he grows or just keep him in here? He's still a pretty small guy. About 3 feet or so. Let me know what you guys keep your WTP's in. Thanks!

Re: White Lipped Python enclosure question

If he has access to the cold and hot side, and chooses the cold side... maybe thats what he wants?
That being said, perhaps its the hide itself if you use different hides? put it on the hot side and put one from the hot to the cold etc.

Isn't this the purpose of offering up a hot and cold side? So they decide where they want to go? Have I been doing things wrong?

The hot side has temperatures varying from 85 to 93 so I don't think it's too hot but I do have different hides. Should I move the one he always uses to the warmer side or just not worry about it?

Well I just thought I would bring it up because he isn't using the warm side and these snakes are prone to RI's caused by cold and damp temperatures.

That you know of. I'm sure you're not home 24 hours a day every day. You said he cruises at night. I wouldn't be surprised if he feels more comfortable on the hot side at night.

Maybe you should use a different thermometer in case that is just reading wrong.
