Skinny boa

so what is the best route to get an old snake who is on the very lean side back up to size? A big rat is on the larger side for her, my jerry rice is wider than her, shes about 9 feet long and pretty underweight, would more small meals or larger meals work?

Re: Skinny boa

I would try 2 smaller meals first for a couple of feeds then up the size. Any pics?

Re: Skinny boa

Looking at the pic I would say 2 maybe 3 large rats. but its hard to say. At 9' she does look skinny she should be eating rabbits by now.
How old is she?

At least 22. Talking with the old owner he had her 15 years and she was already 7 when he got her

Re: Skinny boa

Any way you can get a pic of the whole snake? It doesn't look to thin to me from that pic.

I agree. Any way we can get a picture of her spread out or inside her cage? Judging from that picture alone, she looks like she can take small rabbits. My male Albino Burmese Python is only a bit wider than her and he can easily take 5 pound chicken every two weeks.

Re: Skinny boa

Maybe a couple of different views would help. How is the musculature to either side of her spine? You might even include a ruler across to give a better idea of her diameter so we can compare it to her length.

Re: Skinny boa

just feed her a appropriate sized rat every 7 days. as under weight as she looks her body will react quickly to getting regular feedings. if you do too much too fast you could start some regurge issues. especially with her being older. maybe a month of weekly medium rats then go up to larges, rats have a lot of fat content so that would be good for her.
