JCP Help?

I think I should go ahead and apologize because I really don't know what sub-forum to put this under, so I guessed this one would probably be best. I am fairly inactive on the forums. Anyway, we have a Jungle Carpet Python who just started shed. I went to check on our collection, made sure they had water and stuff. Our Jungle carpet is breathing pretty heavily, and I can hear popping sounds when she breathes as if someone has a stopped up nose. Not sure if this is normal for her when she is in shed or not as I don't really know much about JCP's, as my mom is the one who mainly cares for her. My mom is currently at work and I have no way of contacting her for the next 5-6 hours. Is it normal for her to be doing this, or not. If not, could I possibly get some help on what I should do at least until she gets back. She's on a heating pad along with the other snakes, and it's maintained at 95 degree Fahrenheit. Other than that, I have no idea what to do. Thank you very much for any help I will be able to receive.

Re: JCP Help?

it could well be some shed stuck up a nostril...

leave her to shed and wait on your mum coming home from work

to the op's mum...

if its still that way in the morning, give her a warm bath, but submerge the head under water, for 20 to 30 seconds, repeat this 3 or 4 times...

then take the snake out and listen to it breathing,it may be a little noisy due to it expelling water from the nostril

if it still sounds the same, put the snake back in the bath, and submerge the head again, this time for 30 to 60 seconds, repeat this 3 or 4 times, more if need be,you should start to see the occasional bubble coming out the nostrils, this should have cleared out any stuck shed, from the nostril

if it's only 1 nostril you thinks blocked, then hold your finger over the good nostril, while submerging the head,do this in 10 second intervels,it should force the snake to use the partially blocked nostril, causing any shed to be blown out

the above is how i deal with blocked nostrils

please let us know how it goes

re temperature
95F is a little hot imo,i would have your hot end 87F to 90F..cool end high 70's F to low 80'sF

cheers shaun

Re: JCP Help?

Shaun, she's fine. She just started going into shed today and started doing this.

About the heat. The thermostat is set to 93 but inside her tub it's reading 91-92, probably still a degree or two high but I bumped the heat a little to help them with digestion since I fed them the other day. Her normal hot side is around 90 with her cool end usually between 78-80, depending upon the ambient room temp. My son doesn't know to look at the digital thermometers I have in the tubs. . . he only sees the thermostat setting and my digit thermometer with the humidity reader I have in the room.

Thanks for helping him! I drowned my phone last night and have to get another one so he had no way of contacting me to ask. I'm glad he came here to ask questions and someone was able to help him. He's still learning the finer points of husbandry, but he's getting better at helping me take care of all of my girls
