Rhynchophis boulengeri (Rhino rats)

I've been working with these stunning snakes for a while now and thought I'd share my recent success with these guys...

After three years of raising I got to breed them for the first time this season with clutch nr1 hatching just over a week ago...

I hope you enjoy them !

Holy hell! That's so cool! Do they look the same as adults too?

Really neat looking snakes. What do you suppose the horn was intended for?

Re: Rhynchophis boulengeri (Rhino rats)

Thanks guys !

These guys do change colour from hatchling to adulthood. They start of grey/pale green and gradually change to a bright green adult. I'll post some pics of my adults tomorrow.

I have no idea what they function of the horn may be but it's probably used to aid in camouflage as there seems to be no other logical alternative. To the touch their "horns" are soft although they appear to be hard and sharp.

Pretty rare. I've only had the pleasure of seeing a few in person.

I hope the babies start eating easily and switch over to rodents for you

Louis!

Glad to see you back, man. So amazing, congratulations! Were these the ones you had last October? How long for incubation?

Re: Rhynchophis boulengeri (Rhino rats)

Thanks guys !

They are very well tempered compared to other rat snake species. Some think everything is food but apart from that they aren't bad at all.

Thanks J, these are the babies from the adult you held at my place. They took 52 days to hatch at 28*C.
