Anyone else on earth, I would not believe, However Steve is about the most honest man alive, so this is NOT made up, it's not fake or a hoax.
This was posted on the Thamnophis forum today.

Would be cool if Tank joined up as a member here. He'd be a great source for turtle care.

Re: Free range snapping turtle skype's pal!
Obviously, the computer was left on Skype, Stefan knew Steve was going to be out for a few minutes, hence that's how he knew that the only way he was getting Skype messages was the turtle walking over the keyboard, but it is funny....

Few questions, though:
How do you keep a free roam snapping turtle? Do you crank the heat? Create an accessible pond in your home? Both?
And how does a free roam snapping turtle safely get on and off a computer desk unsupervised?

Give me a minute to find Tank's thread, He's a one of a kind, no doubt about it.
Steve takes absolutely awesome care of Tank, raised him up since he was a baby, this turtle sleeps on the sofa, follows family members around and comes when called.
Obviously, Tank could never function in the wild ever again, so Steve even has one of his children lined up to take over in case Steve passes away.

Re: Free range snapping turtle skype's pal!
I remember seeing pictures somewhere (here or another site) of Tank curled up in bed with Steve's daughter, both sound asleep. There's some videos on youtube too I think. He's pretty amazing.
There's a bunch of info on him, with posts from Steve himself, in the turtle forum in a thread started about snapping turtles. I'm sure infernalis will post the link before I even finish typing this.

Re: Free range snapping turtle skype's pal!
Thanks Wayne for posting about Tank and his Skype usage. The post you talk about isn't the first time he has Skyped my friend Stefan(who lives in Finland) He did the same thing about a month age. My laptop sits on the floor next to Tank's water enclosure.
I think it's some kind of code. Tank and Stefan are up to something.

Tank has a water enclosure where he can come and go in and I do mean go. He is potty trained(not that I did anything) He naturally goes(poops and pees) in the water. No need to crank up the heat. Snapping turtles like it cool. Excessive heat is a killer to them but to other turtles the heat is no problem. Tank's water enclosure is a 45 gal. oval tub with a hole cut in the side. He comes and goes as he pleases. He is an active member of our family. If we get a vacation this year he will go with us.
