Question about the Colombian Tegu
There's a local guy who's really wanted my ball python for his breeding projects, he's the same guy who also pretty much gave me two boas for $40 because he needed to make room. He's offering me a 3 foot B&W Colombian tegu but I'm not sure if I'll be able to house her properly.. He's willing to give me the 55g that comes with her but that doesn't seem like a good size and I don't have the room to turn an entire portion of my garage into an enclosure.

That's what I was thinking. It's a beautiful fully intact B&W Colombian though, but I'm not sure if I'd ever have the room to build something to suit her needs.

Then don't get it mate... Why risk not being able to house it. Just get something that's suitable for you, not everything cool that's going cheap... Just my opinion.

Not really trying to get it because it's cheap, if I'm not mistaken you can get Colombians for like $50. I'm just trying to help this guy out. He's gonna show me the Tegu and see how I like her. If she's pretty tame I might get 5ft dragon emble

Re: Question about the Colombian Tegu
If you're not positive you can commit the decline it. Take the cash if you don't want the pastel but I honestly would start questioning this guys abilities. A male pastel isn't that great of a morph for a breeding project unless you are real small time.

I'm not looking to sell the BP, I had showed him my collection in the past and he just contacted me about trading. He's currently working for a reptile shop and wants to start small time breeding. I think I'm going to decline.

Work your way up the animals... From what I know, tegu's aren't that easy to provide for.. If its a first lizard for you, start smaller.

That's good advice, Tegu's seem really interesting but I hated taking care of a Tokay Gecko because they were so damn feisty. He says she's super calm but I also read that Tegu's can turn on their owners if they don't like something.

I'm going to make an assumption here.. So it's just my opinion.
When a monitor is calm/placid, it's because it's usually in bad health as healthy ones want nothing to do with humans usually.. Could it be the same with tegu's? It just seems suspicious that he wants to swap it for a low end royal, it's kept in a 55 gallon "fish tank" and is supposedly "tame"..

That does seem plausible, if I were able to supply a proper enclosure for her to live a healthy life and she turned aggressive I have had no experience with any aggression but from a Gecko so this would probably turn bad.

Re: Question about the Colombian Tegu
You made it sound like he was a well known local breeder before.

Oh no, he's just starting off. He's trying to breed smaller snakes.

Re: Question about the Colombian Tegu
Corey, I mean this completely good naturedly - you sound like me with every single video game I see. It looks cool, or it's on sale and you don't already have it, or someone mentions it.... and you just gotta have it. It seems like every 2 or 3 days you're asking about another creature that you have your eye on. I'm not criticizing; I have an entire shelf of games I've played once or never played, so I'm not one to talk. Just making a friendly observation!

I didn't go after the trade and Colombian tegus from what I've seen on classifieds aren't worth much. So that analogy doesn't really apply to this situation.
