Proper Cleaning

As of right now I use water to clean Lazarus's tank, is there anything else I can use to clean his tank? As to not hurt him, but possibly be healthy and safe to use?

I was told I could use vinegar, is that safe?

vinegar diluted in a spray bottle for some cleaning.

as long as you mind the smell. Yuck I hate the stuff but it is a great cleaner, just remember OP to let it air out well. Also setting something out in the sun can kill some bacteria. I clean a tank with vinegar and then let it set in the sun to finish airing out and drying out.

and as far as what kind, white vinegar or apple cider vinegar will work fine. I prefer the white but I see some people use the apple stuff to clean fish tanks with. Not real sure on the difference.

I buy white vinegar by the gallon and use it for everything. It's nearly as good as bleach at killing germs. 25% vinegar to 75% water in a spray bottle. Once it dries out I wipe it down useing a wet cloth with about a quarter of a teaspoon of orange extract. Gets rid of the odor really well. I use this not only for the herps but birds as well with no problems.
