Interesting Sav

I stumbled across an ancient cell picture of mine, this was a very spotty Sav at a local pet shop. Wish I could have taken it.. Anyone seen one like this before? If so, how easy are they to find?

Re: Interesting Sav

That is a very spotty sav!!! What a cutie. I've always assumed the ocelli are a continuos character and vary by the sav, sort of like zebra stripes. However, I'd imagine that if more ocelli resulted in less predation on such cryptically colored individuals, this phenotype might be more common in certain localities. But that's just a guess.

Re: Interesting Sav

That's one possibility I considered. Thing is, none of the siblings were like this. If anything, the siblings had less spots than you usually see.

Re: Interesting Sav

It could have been a mutation in the allele coding for pattern. do you know what happened to the sav? Was it captive-born here?

You sure they were siblings and not just a random collection of imports?

Someone bought it. It's probably languishing in a collection somewhere, or deceased. This pic is from July last year.

According to the shop, they were captive bred. I didn't bother questioning it, though my guess is that they bought "CB" animals and assumed it meant captive bred.
In either case, they first got them in as tiny, tiny babies. As in two inches tiny.

Yes, I've seen a few similar to this.

Re: Interesting Sav

Wyldrose, that is a very pretty sav, congrats.
What struck me most about the one I posted is that the spots are of varying size, and not in organized rows like you normally see.

Fairly sure I seen one yesterday at the pet store, although it was much bigger =] I'll have to double check it won't be long before I head over there again for some food
