Honestly, that gave me a good laugh that people will do stuff like that. . . Reminds me of the cats in a jar - anyone else remember Bonsai kittens?

I don't even like it that pet stores sell them.

Re: now this really bothers me

I have to disagree and say that anoles are a perfect lizard to start kids with. Their care is simple, they can be calm enough, they have a readily available diet, and their bites, even from the largest of males, will not even draw blood. In fact, when I was a kid, we used to take trips to Fl. Me and my sisters used to catch them and clip them on our ear lobes. They would just hang there for minutes on end. LOL.

With that being said, if that jar is indeed the set up they are selling, it is pretty bad. I would house a trio in a minimum of a ten gallon sized cage.

Re: now this really bothers me

I had a pair of Anoles for years, they were awesome, but then again, I was strictly hands off and observe, they mated but kept destroying the eggs.

Done right, they are a hoot to sit and watch, but sadly, 99% of them get miserable short lives once in captivity, who's going to put much effort into a $4 pet?

Now go look at Jason's (Warmachine) gecko setups... amazing, like mini monitor enclosures.

Herping in Puerto Rico, Anolis pulchellus earrings

I love anoles. I'm keeping four species and they make awesome captives when housed properly. it's too bad about those anoles.

Re: now this really bothers me

yes i agree. its sad too since they really are such amazing critters! I used to have 2 browns and 2 greens set up in a 55 gallon, and in my opinion they were doing fine. vicious feeders and only 1 out of all 4 became handleable.

how are you supposed to provide heating and lighting in a miracle whip jar!!!
