Apparently.....October is Vet bill month is this house
My god, does it ever stop!!!
$550 in vet bills for my beloved Poitash between 2 visits this month and I'm broke......
Now...... looks like Torruk has come up with an RI
it really is true when they say "when it rains, it pours" isn't it??
The closest reptile vet has estimated this vet bill to be about $150-$200 depending on which med and dose...... made an appt for tomorrow morning and now waiting for a few friends to get back to me to see if I can borrow some cash till next payday. If not, then I guess it's off to money mart!!
This is really turning out to be a sucky *** month for me!!

Re: Apparently.....October is Vet bill month is this house
i'm just back from my vets it only cost me £35 ($52),that was for a complete examination, swabs taken to be cultured and a 2 week course of baytril
luckily thats the first time i've been to a vet since 2008,when i had a jaguar with an on going lung condition, even then key hole surgery was only £160 ($240)
vets seem very expensive over your way mate
cheers shaun

Re: Apparently.....October is Vet bill month is this house
well there is a cheaper one, but it's an hr's drive away, and with the price of gas out here, I don't see it being much less expensive than this one that is only 10 mins away. Basically they screw you one way or the other!!

i hear what your saying.....
my usual vet who was a 5 minute drive away, left the practice in 2008 to take a full time job at Edinburgh Zoo
my new vet is an hour and a half round trip
fuel is £1.44 a litre ($2.16 per litre)
cheers shaun

Re: Apparently.....October is Vet bill month is this house
Jeez, I guess I shouldn't be complaining about our gas prices then!! we're at $1.24/ltr as long as I get it here in Mission, everywhere else is $1.34 or higher/ltr!!
Still though, it all works out the same, spend $30 in gas to save $30 in vet bills

Re: Apparently.....October is Vet bill month is this house
Well I have never been to this "closer vet", but I DID NOT like the other one when I went, her attitude was, "keep it coming, and it took 2 visits and 2- 3 week courses of meds to clear up his infection, and on the second visit she said if this doesn't work then we'll just do another 4 week course of a different anti-biotic.

imo thats a terrible vet.....
a simple trachial wash or swabs cultured, would have identified the exact bacteria and identified the best treatment...
not just rolling the dice and hoping to get it correct
i would avoid going there again as well pal
cheers shaun

Re: Apparently.....October is Vet bill month is this house
alright, back from the vet.
lordy lordy, does it ever stop????
So Torruk does have a RI, they di take a swab and will identify what bacteria/virus could be causing this, they are pulling towards a bacteria as my other BP (who was right beside Torruk) is fine so far. For now they have sent me home with baytril, and will call me back in if they find that baytril is not what he needs.
on top of that, she found he had a bladder stone, but while she was doing the palpitation, he passed it so all is good on that end.
She said my husbandry was spot on, but told me to bump up temps just a bit while were treating him, quarantine him (obviously) and to use a damp towel as substrate for now, which will both bump humidity for now and help him with his bad shed (first ever bad shed!!)
other than that she said he is a beautiful snake, nice weight (999g if I remember correctly)
