Could you build one? I built one for about 100 dollars. And I have no knowledge of construction.... its not hard.

Most places like Home Depot will cut the wood to whatever size you need when you buy it. I think they do something like 3 cuts for free then a small charge every cut after that.

I'm sure you can find guides online about how to build a beardie enclosure.

Maggot.. really?

iiPink- You can seal it with a normal polyurethane just make sure to let it air out about a week before you place a snake in it.

What? It had been two days since anyone answered, so I figured she would probably be able to find an answer to her question that people weren't giving her here. Y'all are so bloody sensitive.

Re: bearded dragon vivarium

i would advise against polyurethane. i use it on some side jobs i do and its very toxic and when it heats up it does give off some sort of fumes that i assume arent good. use a zero-voc wood stain/sealer. bioshield makes a safe one. or the cheap approach is plas-tex or FRP.

Re: bearded dragon vivarium

i built (2) 4x2x2 cages and (4) 36''x12''x12'' cages and they are all built the same... ( with exception to the heat) the bearded dragons cage i built is 4'x2'x2' and has a 100 watt MVB for heat, and a night time black light, or i use a ceramic heat emmiter, which produces only heat for night time.

i just used melamine sheets, cut to size by home depot for free and i sealed the edges with normal silicon and let it dry for a day or so... with melamine you dont have to seal the wood, since it is already sealed nicely, but i did do the edges and corners though.

if you google bearded dragon cage, you will find some really nice write ups for them... only tools you will really need is a drill really, and some screws.. since home depot, lowes, or menards will cut for you.

As long as you allow it to air out and off gas for a week it is completely safe. Yes there are less toxic options but no matter what you use I still think it is a good idea to allow a full week to off gas.
