Anyone with this species? Please post photos of critter and also enclosures:

Here's Bamboo - the other snakes got fed - he didn't and I observed him tasting the air: His feed is tommorrow.

a previous night's feed:

Custom made 4x2x2 - I know he will outgrow this in a year or a couple.

I had Kirana for a while, sold her to a friend who was more passionate about the species then myself. Kept her in an arboreal viv but she mostly stayed on the ground during the day and retreated to the branches to sleep.

My roommate has some Vietnamese Blue Beauties plus some babies in addition to the Taiwanese Beauties. They are gorgeous and I've been considering them.

Mine wasn't. They don't really like being manipulated but if you support them well they seam to be fine with occasional handling.

You are soo tempting me to get a pair of Blue Beauties from my roommate. I know these are cbb because he hatched these himself. Also I'm not worried about bitey babies either. Remember, I have Macklot's

Re: Taiwan Beauty snake - Orthriophis taeniurus friesi

Bamboo was from a guy who sold it to me for £30. It belonged to his cousin who thought it was some 'type of grass-snake'. Well - he had retained a previous slough and I soaked him a good while in warm water and teased little pieces off bit by bit. I was pleased to observe both eye-caps came off cleanly too. He has only once struck at the cat who came from behind me when I was sat on the floor with him. He tail rattles and appears to be a bit of a softy really. I can freely handle him and he won't bite or musk or anything. He likes to settle in under a wooly jumper and I will sit watching a movie like this or else he climbs into my T-shirt and keeps snug there until I move him. Length I would estimate at 1.2 meters - so still plenty of growing to do. It is a pity I do not exactly know his age/lineage etc but he was kept in a bare glass tank with little substrate, a heat mat cellotaped to the exterior back wall and a normal 60Watt house bulb in one corner by the previous owner(s). I think he knows the difference. Very inquisitive and always watching what I do in the mornings. Rest of the time - after a feed - he will tuck himself away in the hollow natural cork tube for days. I am conditioning him to associate a bright LED torch light with food. So far, he will come out of the cork tube to inspect the light. I know he is captive bred and this I believe is a good factor when obtaining any snake as opposed to Wild Caught. Captive Bred can be handled more freely and conditioned to do so better than any Wild Caught.

I use a search engine to determine the average Taiwan climatic conditions and mist spray his enclosure every two to three days. He likes a good soak. Inbetween heavy mistings I allow the enclosure to dry out. I use mini-fans too which are located on the ceiling. They are on digi-timers.

I saw a gorgeous adult pair cohabiting at the Isle of Skye serpentarium ( United Kingdom- Scotland). The enclosure was large - arboreal style with running waterfall and a cave hide above this = fantastic.
