Sick? Or about to shed?

Just a little concerned because the symptoms are dragging on a little.
  • Color has greyed (including foggy eyes) x 1-2 weeks (last time he shed quickly)
  • No defecation x2 weeks (weekly until then)
  • Very little activity (could usually catch him out and about at night, but not recently)
  • Seems to move normally when taken out and handled.

Eating just fine (weekly). Temps (83-75) and humidity (80+%) staying consistent. I've only been through 1 shed with him since I've owned him, so I'm not used to the look or the behavior yet.

Anything I should be looking for or worried about?

Re: Sick? Or about to shed?

Nothing to worry about bud.. only seems like he is going into shed. BRB are a very shy species of snake so that is probably why you don't see much activity from him. Also, snakes tend to be a little bit more on the nervous side when shedding. For the defecation, small prey items like pinky and fuzzy have either no or very little fur and light bone mass. Therefor, those prey items are pretty much pure protein for your snake.

Re: Sick? Or about to shed?

Agreed, all sounds normal. The lack of defecating could be just waiting to help push out the vent area of shed. I often find sheds with poop or urates inside

Agreed as well, nothing here sounds abnormal. Please keep us posted when he does give you a shed-poop combo!

Re: Sick? Or about to shed?

Thanks all. That helps me relax. I will try to post some before and after pics of the color contrast from pre- to post- shed.
And yes, I'll spare you any pics of potential "bonus" material deposited during shed.
