Second WRE 2012 pickup.

And the teeniest! Of all our snakes as well! A little male African House snake. Currently without a name. Hopefully this is the right place to post him! Sorry if it's not.

Re: Second WRE 2012 pickup.

He just had his first meal with us today, always a relief the first time a new snake eats for you! Ended up just giving him a pinky head because he's so little.

How cute!!! Kind of ball python eye stripes. How big will it get? Boy or girl? Name yet? Any special care needs? That is a super cute snake.

Re: Second WRE 2012 pickup.

It's a little male. Thinking of naming him Ronan, I'm almost completely sure that name is what will stick. No real special needs. They can be about as iridescent as a Rainbow boa. They are another sexually dimorphic species, with males being smaller. Males max out at about 3 feet and females can get to five, though sounds like in captivity, four feet is more the average.

Re: Second WRE 2012 pickup.

Walked into the reptile room earlier and Ronan was in a really neat pose, so I ran to get the camera, unfortunately he had moved by the time I got back, of course. Still, I took a few pictures. I'm not as good as my husband at getting the camera to focus past the enclosure but these aren't bad by my standards.

Re: Second WRE 2012 pickup.

Got a few more pictures of Ronan in his KK, think I'm getting better at focusing through the cages.

He's very pretty.

If you plan to pair him up be sure to find out exactly what sub-species he is. African house snakes are notorious for not breeding inter-sup-species.

So beautiful! I saw an ad for one that was a beautiful caramel color, and it was such a gorgeous snake.

He can take a whole pinky. They are crazy eaters. Seems as though they never get full.

Re: Second WRE 2012 pickup.

Actually he refused to eat this last time, he's going into shed but the time before was his first whole, uncut pinky, the smallest day old I could find. Before that, he'd eaten both halves of a pinky, so he's had two complete pinkies. He refused a whole one once soon after I got him and refused a bigger piece once as well, so I just stuck to small pinky heads for awhile and then started offering both halves and he'd been choosing the other half for awhile and then finally ate both halves. Really looking forward to not having to decapitate his meals! He's been growing like crazy, this will be his 3rd shed since I've had him. Wished I'd gotten a weight on him when I first got him but didn't want to stress him out. I'd guess he was only between 3 to 6 grams though.
