Wacom bamboo vrs ????

So my son wants one of these and I know nothing about them.
Are there better ones in this price range or slightly higher?
Anything I should know about them?
He's 16 and a comic artist with a big eye anime style. Getting good so I want to expand on his interest.
Help please!!

Re: Wacom bamboo vrs ????

I have a WACOM tablet, but I think its the cheapest model they had 6-7 yrs ago when I got it. I don't know what bells and whistles the Bamboo model has.

In general, its an awesome product. A must-have for any artist who does digital work.

Wacom are very good and have many models and sizes. All depends on your needs and use.

Re: Wacom bamboo vrs ????

Wacom Bamboo's are great, I have a Bamboo Pen and my friend has a Bamboo Pen and Touch. The only real difference is that the pen and touch is more expensive and obviously uses touch too. Personally I prefer just the Bamboo Pen, which has lasted me a few years already with no issues at all. Buying anything more expensive is really just going to give him a bunch of addons he probably won't even use.

Re: Wacom bamboo vrs ????

Pretty much anything that isn't a netbook would work great with a Bamboo Pen. I actually used a little Wacom Netbook with my Bamboo for a while, and it actually did fine with it. The program lagged a little once in a while if I did something more than just drawing lines or coloring something in, but was otherwise fine. The main thing that I didn't like about it was the tiny screen, but it wasn't that big of an issue. Pretty much any cheap laptop with a halfway decent memory and graphics card will be fine.

Re: Wacom bamboo vrs ????

I've got a Wacom Bamboo Medium Pen Tablet, black. The tablet itself may sound small (about 5inch by 8inch, not counting the borders) but it's very flexible and useful.

If he's already got a computer, the tablet hooks up via usb cord. However you might end up buying a Usb cord after a few months, as I ended up having to do. Wacom usb cords aren't very sturdy and end up with the rubber split and exposing wires with a lot of use.

I've had my wacom pen tablet for about... 4 years now, and at the time it was 76$ or so at a bestbuy. Except for the cord, it's sturdy and reliable. It's got a scroll 'wheel' at the top-center, surrounded by four buttons that you can choose their function. On the pen itself there is the pen nib, an 'eraser' nib, and two buttons on the side. Of all of these I only use the first button on the pen, and the scroll wheel on the tablet itself. I'm simple :P
