New ATB Litter 9/3/12

So thanks to the holiday here in the states I had no work on Monday and had big plans!! First sleep in as late as possible, then eat some lunch and take a nap, and then get some cages cleaned and get a shower and go to sleep. Figure I would be well rested for the week. Right as I was about to get started cleaning my wife looks at the ATB cage and says "BABIES!!!"

So I grabbed my camera and lost 2 hours of cleaning time for babies!! These first two pics are two of my favorites!!

We caught her out in the open with a decent line of site for this pic and it really shows the sack around the baby well, you can see the blood vessels and how the baby is curled up inside the mother the whole time.

This shot is not as bright but more of the same awesome experience of the first

Pulled back shot of the babies crawling all over momma! Mom looks super dark here but she is actually a red/orange animal

Speaking of red/orange this little screamer was in the mix, this is normally called the Halloween phase or simply the garden phase. The important thing to know with these is all this red/orange fades to white/gray in the first year and the end result is a beautiful crisp clean garden.

Unrelated adult garden for people who may not be that into ATB's to know what I am talking about

Back to the litter

nice mix

Variety is the spice of life and ATB's

The reddest one in the center of this pic was my favorite

Belly

It had almost garden ground color on it's head and changed to red/orange as it went down

Sadly out of the final clutch number of 15 BIG!! healthy babies this ended up being the one animal that died...

Re: New ATB Litter 9/3/12

I did get a cool striped like garden in the mix

Beautiful oranges

and some gorgeous yellows

Overall I am very happy with the litter and they are huge babies!! I need to get some weights on them but the biggest of them are bigger than my smallest yearling... No where near as big as the biggest yearling but I think they will catch up very quickly. The mother is around 7 feet long and very big girth wise... or she was at least. Now I have to build her back up, she has a full year to get back to breeding condition or more if needed. Poor girl looks like a flat tire now.

Here is pregnant mommy

Non pregnant mommy colors

And the killer spotted daddy!!

Hope you enjoyed!

Beautiful. I don't think I can pick a favorite. I'm very fond of gardens, but that tri-color is great, too.

They are gorgeous! Are all of those going to grow up to be different colors as adults?

Not sure what you mean. They will be some similar color to what they are now but yes they will change as they grow. The gardens will grow into grays, blacks and white and the yellows and oranges will also grow into yellows and oranges but they may change drastically from yellow to orange.

Re: New ATB Litter 9/3/12

Mostly post shed pics, these guys are taking forever to shed. We are on day 20 since birth and a few still have not shed out... Anyway feeding day came and some had shed so I tried feeding all of them and had really good results with most eating.

First up my hold back, the hotter sib that looked like this one died the first night but this one is not too shabby either.

that garden with the bright red lines is stunning! The rest are little lookers too. Too bad you never really know what they're gonna turn out like when they're adults.

What do you mean "never know"? With gardens or in general?

in general with ATBs. I've seen adults that look way different from when they were babies. Sure some will stay the same, but most change and some can vary greatly.
