Thermax?

So, I've decided I HATE the heater in Pajamas' cage. It's inconsistent (even hooked up to a thermostat, I had it set to 90 on the warm side, and it would only go up to like 85, yet on some days it would shoot up all of a sudden....uggghhh). I found a thermax heater which may work, just want to know if that would work? Or should I just say eff it and go with the radiant heat panels like I wanted to do before? OOORR any other suggestions? All I know is the Ceramic heat bulb is awesome, but super hot.

Re: Thermax?

Go with the heat panel. I am going to use that in my next set up. I like everything that I have read about them.

Re: Thermax?

Same here. I thought the one I got was fairly similar, and I loved the fact that it's water proof...it just doesn't heat up hot enough half the time >.< Should probably just get the panel. here's the big question....what size do I get for a 6'x3'x3'?

Re: Thermax?

I have a 120 watt in a 6x2x20" the room is around 77 90% of the time. I use a simple Home Depot baseboard heater thermostat amost dead center or the enclosure. I ignored the temp setting number and just turned it up until the top of the warm hide 90. Ambient air is about 85. Thermostat is set to 88 ish. I check it every day with a heat gun and it fluctuates a bit. About 3-4 degrees. Nature fluctuates at least that much so I don't see it being inacurate or bad but actually more realistic. I also found my snakes more active vrs the uth in the old enclosures (the snakes in this viv are breeding adult BCI's with one being in it alone for a month first) I am sold. Heat panels on cheap thermostats are more nature like that uth's in my opinion. The snakes I have switched over seem more healthy and active. I am sure its due to the need to move around to different heat zones and not just sitting in the same spot at the same temp all day. Every snake I have will soon have this setup. Sorry for the long wind type reply but I can't stress enough how great these work and how safe the heat panel truly is.

Re: Thermax?

Best part is the thermostats are $15. I also forgot to add the room my snakes are in is a dedicated reptile room thus the warm room temp. I also keep the room at about 70% + humidity. The room is not quite done. I have a thread about it here somewhere. I will post pics or do a video as soon as I can finish it. In the meantime this is my boa tank.

You can see the heat panel on the upper right and the thermostat half behind the water dish. There is a screw that holds the adjustme t wheel in place. I turned it in until I needed both hands to turn the wheel. The snakes can not adjust it. No need for a screen cover. Works great.
The cage turned out good. Needs some plants after some breeding
The center section of the top opens. The front is glass and yes I have to much crap in this room already.

Re: Thermax?

very cool! Pajamas is in my room, so it's a little cooler...can't wait for my reptile room (when we move, he said I can have a dedicated reptile/sewing room) ^-^
