Green Anaconda...

Hey guys, havnt posted here in a wee while so thought id throw up a few new pics of chainsaw. I dont really tend to name my snakes but this guy definitely lives up to his. I have tried all sorts to get this guy to calm down but he just hates me and will bite at any oppertunity...

I moved him into a new viv as he refused his last 2 meals and i thought it was down to humidity issues, as its been stupidly warm here, so i moved him from his wooden viv into a moulded plastic one with an extra big water dish an new bark. After one night in his new viv he banged 3 XL mice into him....

thanks for looking...

Male greens are renouned fussy feeders that tend to get fixated on one prey item. For mine its mice, i have tried many a rat, warm, cold, brained, washed and rubbed with a load of mice, no interest whatsoever. Tried chicks too and he just turns his nose up at them.

Another green keeper i have been chatting to had the same issue with his but managed to get his onto baby guinea pigs and his boy now banging back 2 large guinea pigs a month so im gona try and source some and see if it works for mine. Just worried tho if he gets the taste for them and i cant get a steady supply he might not go back onto mice...

Either way isn't it best to put something like that on rabbits? Can it handle a small bunny?

Awesome snake.

Re: Green Anaconda...

Hey how big is he now? I bet anything he biting because he always hungry. Offer him one small rat a week and nothing else. When he gets hungry enough he'll eat it. As long as you had him he should be easily downing rats. I personally would never feed mice to a anaconda. My yellow started rat pups. He looking good btw.

Yea thats what im gona try or baby guinea pigs but like i said i dont really have a steady supply so if he gets the taste for other prey and the supply runs out and he doesnt go back on the mice il be well fooked... Catch22

He hasnt done too much growing mate tbh. I highly doubt the biting is hunger, my money is on him just being super defensive. He is a WC and he has some terrible scarring down his left flank behind the head about 4 inches long and an inch high and a lot of other scarring further down his body that doesnt show on the pics. i will try and get some that show the extent of it, tbh im surprised hes even alive, there must have been some hole in his neck to scar like that.

He has had a terrible time of it before i got him, and was already started on mice before he came to me. I had no issues converting the yellow over so thought how hard can it be, turns out very!

I have tried allsorts but he has no interest in anything but mice, even starved him for over a month, offered nice warm rat and nothing, didnt entertain it in the slightest. The only thing i havnt tried is skinning a mouse and wrapping the skin round the rat but i need to invest in a scalple for that.

Hes just a downright fussy feeder, even when i offer multiple mice, he sometimes eats them all and sometimes just the one.

Just cant win with this guy...

Tis all good mate, you just tryin to help, would be some delivery charge all the same lol...

I have a guy i get my stuff in bulk off, all standard issue stuff like mice, rats, and chicks. He does get in other things like quale(sp), rabbits guinea pigs and a few other random things but they seem to come in batches, there for a while then you cant get them again.

Will give it a go tho, hopefully be ok...

Re: Green Anaconda...

I just had a thought could you post a couple pictures of his cage. One that show his whole inside of his set up?
