Oh.. no no. We don't get many around here. At least not enough to be a problem.

they're the one sound I can't stand or fall asleep to =/ We used to feed them to our dog...then she'd throw up, and my brothers found that hilarious. poor dog, now that I think back on it. haha. They are pretty though, I will give them that.

Re: Found these today..
Love the slithery one! Thank God the hubby didn't run over it lol. Sucks it scared the MIL...or is it? <evilgrin>
That cicada is teh debbil! Where I'm from they seem to be very abundant. I was mentally scared for life with them because I got chased with them...and often. *shivers* Ours sing forever. I can stand the noise for a little while, but not for hours on end. lol

Re: Found these today..
Oh come on, I love that long buzzing sound, tells me it's summer.
Out back at camp, the air is alive with frog song, cricket chirping and loud buzzing sounds from the trees.
It's nature's symphony.
Sure beats road noise, horns beeping and kids walking past the house at 3:00 am talking smack on their way home from a party.

Re: Found these today..
I love to hear them day or night. I live in AZ now and I miss all the night sounds of the critters back home. Of course I do have the coyotes to listen to.

Re: Found these today..
I enjoy the sound of cicadas in the late summer/fall, I don't like the fact that they mean summer is almost over. I've never heard cicadas at night, ever? Must be a different species that does that. The one in the photo is a Tibicen canicularis or "Dog-day Cicada". Same type we have here in Ontario.
Also, love the garter snake
