New Guy!!
What's up everybody. I acquired a new python from an ex-inlaw who couldn't care for him anymore.
Say Hello to Monty:
The tank is just temporary until I have the funds to build him a proper enclosure. I've had him for about a week now so am prolly gonna feed him this weekend and see how he does. He's pretty active and has adjusted really well.

Welcome to the forum. Gotta love it when the ex inlaws do that for you.

Re: New Guy!!
Thanks. His current setup is just temporary. I'm planning on building him a custome viv starting in September. Good thing about living in Florida is humidity isn't as big of a problem.

I was surprised when they called me. I thought they would have just given him back to the breeder they got him from.

We were watching TV for a few minutes last night and he was wrapped around my arm. Just poked his head out from under my leg for the camera

Re: New Guy!!
First feeding attempt didn't go so well. That was Saturday night. Probably my fault since he had only been in his new tank for less than a week. I'll try again next weekend. Probably a newbie question, but any advice for thawing a frozen medium rat? I've never done it and just wanted to make sure I got it right. I tried with a fresh kill but since he didn't take it I ended up putting it in my secondary freezer.

How long did you leave it before freezing it?

30 - 45 minutes
He did go up to it and take a long look at it, but he went right back into his hide after that. Didn't touch it at all.
Edit - it wasn't still warm when I froze it, but by no means was it rotten at all. It was only out for a little bit. I may just get a new one anyways. The people that I picked him up from fed him live in a seperate tub away from his enclosure so I anticipated an issue with his first feeding.

I would make his next meal a live then just so you know for sure that he's gonna eat for you. I wouldn't take him out of his cage though. Once you're sure he is eating then you can work on switching to f/t.

That's what I was thinking. I change his water out every 2 days so I'll just not disturb him when I do that. May move him to a less active part of my house.
