My new ball
hey all,
I've been wanting a ball python for a while. I had one as a kid and wound up having to give him to a friend when I moved. Finally found the right one and had an empty 40 gallon tank just needing a tenant!

Re: My new ball
Nice looking pastel ball python. Careful with the husbandry; fish cages are notoriously difficult to maintain proper ball python husbandry in.
Good luck.

Re: My new ball
Yeah, you will run into shed problems if you're not able to get the humidity up during moult. I had almost that exact same set-up when I first got my Royal and he didn't have the greatest shed. You'll need to make adjustments (during moult) if you continue to keep him in that tank, like covering a portion of the top with a damp towel, misting, and providing him with a moist hide box.

Re: My new ball
Thanks for the advice guys. I have a mister but what type of enclosure would you all recommend I look into? I want to provide the best care I can for my snakes and I can always find another use for the tank.

Re: My new ball
Alessia has great husbandry advice for Royals. If you look under the Python Regius forum, you'll see a thread called New to Ball Pythons and in there you'll find A LOT of excellent info

Re: My new ball
Keep her in a pvc enclosure heated by a radient hear panel. Control the temps with a thernostat, mist every day or two, and youll have perfect sheds every time. Enjoy!

Re: My new ball
The issues people seem to have with glass tanks are actually relating to the lid, not the tank itself. You could just cut a piece of plywood to the dimensions of the top of your tank. Get a couple of those metal clips they sell at any pet store for $2 and you're set. No more humidity issues.
