Random Thought - Retic Rough Face

Hey guys i just had a question, have any of you noticed your retics head scales roughing up a bit as they age?

I noticed alot of retics have a rough almost "dry" or "wild" look to their face especially the larger ones (not talking about nose rub).
Healthy or not, i just see it in retics alot .

I was speaking to a close friend and he says he noticed it only since i brought it up, but doesn't know why. Anybody else know the reason to this, or has anybody atleaaast noticed????? or am i just overly observant.

I think you'll find that it's a simple case of it being more and more difficult to provide proper conditions as these things get bigger and bigger. I love Retics, but there are *very* few people out there who have the resources to adequately house a mature individual, let alone meet it's husbandry requirements

Really , i was thinking that too. Maybe improper humidity or heating. That's a shame since they are such amazing snakes, and in my opinion, not too difficult to keep as long as you've got experience.

Anyway i see you're in Canada, i was wondering if you know any good websites, stores, or companies that build enclosures for large snakes. I can build one myself, but it would be way less of a hassle if I can just buy one.

I will be needing one soon, i'd like to get one before my retic outgrows his current enclsoure.

Re: Random Thought - Retic Rough Face

Are you talking regular Retics or dwarf? I'm sure you could find something suitable for a dwarf variety, but if it's a regular Retic you're dealing with, I think you'd be best to design something yourself.

Eons ago I kept mine in a converted room, which in my opinion is the only way to have a big old Retic get the amount of space and exercise it needs to be happy, healthy and easy to manage at adult size. It's a sacrifice to dedicate an entire room to a snake, but if you got yourself a Retic, you better be ready to make sacrifices in order to keep it happy, lol.

I really can't help point you to any suppliers or anything, I'm afraid. I avoid the entire reptile 'industry' like the plague, but I'm sure some web searches would turn up results. As to whether or not there are any Canadian suppliers, well...let's hope so because if you have to go outside the country you may have to sacrifice your own proverbial right arm in order to cover the shipping costs to get the thing here, lol

Dwarf, should max out at 8- 12 foot. I'm looking for something around 6 x 3 x 18" .

Okay thanks, i guess I'll start searching now!
