Snakes in backyard. help identify

two snakes were found in my backyard relatively in the same area in my about 2 acre property. i took a long pole that grabbed items and put it in a barrel and relocated them. A third one was in my backyard today and they are all the same snake. they are about 2.5 ft long and a diameter of about .75 in. I am scared and dont know if they are poisonous/dangerous. how do i find out if there is a LOT more of them? HELP PLEASE

They're harmless garter snakes, please let them be.

It's a garter snake, not sure what kind but it's not venomous.

They'll eat rodent pests on your property and I promise she wants less to do with you than you do with her.

Re: Snakes in backyard. help identify

Garter snakes are great to have around. They eat bugs and mice and very small rats. Actually they are venomous. They have a rear set of fangs that has venom that is designed to paralyze prey as its being swallowed. Garter Snakes dont use constriction to kill they just swallow the prey whole. I assure you tho there is almost no way to be envenomated by one because their mouth is so small and the placement of the fang makes it very difficult to bite. If you pick one up it might pop its cloaca which will smell really funky. Its a defensive move to get you to leave it alone

hmm... never ever have i heard of garters being rear fanged.... but then again, i know nothing of them besides they can live in groups unlike other snakes.. but outside of that, no clue... just weird that Wayne never mentioned this before.

They are not rear fanged they have on posterior tooth. And as everybody said they kill pests and they can't hurt you.
