A special treat (Bitis atropos-Berg adder)

I had some time off today and took these stunners out for a quick photo shoot !

Interestingly these guys have neurotoxic venom while all the other Bitis sp. have cytotoxic venom !

Enjoy guys !

Regards
Louis.

Stunning Bitis, why is it that some of the best looking snakes are the deadliest? Ugh... can't justify...

Re: A special treat (Bitis atropos-Berg adder)

beautiful. it's probably for the best that all the most adorable snakes are deadly, as i'd have to smoosh them every day with kisses and snuggles if they weren't. they'd hate that.

Re: A special treat (Bitis atropos-Berg adder)

Beautiful Cape Mountain Adder. It is funny because as you mentioned it has a neurotoxic venom were as the other Bitis do not, but bites from this snake are common and not considered lethal. even without an anti venom (and anti venom for this snake is not even manufactured). But the other Bitis's bites are lethal.
