Skin Disorder

I Have a Standard Ball python, he is about 1 year old. He has always had shedding issues, and I have been consoled to let him wok it out. Well this last time he really seemed to be stuck in his shed, so I gave him a bath in a bucket of water and some shed aid I got from the pet shop. The skin came off and all looked ok after the bath. He scraped off the skin on a rock in the cage. But I cleaned his cage yesterday and picked him up and his belly on the bottom third of his body is raw in the center with what looks like a scab running down either side of the raw area. Any ideas on how to treat it or what I am doing wrong with my husbandry?

Re: Skin Disorder

Bad sheds are usually a result of a lack of humidity. Ball pythons need 80% humidity during sheds. Otherwise, 50%-60% is fine.

How are you heating the enclosure? If you have a really hot heat mat, or heat rock (which should never be used with snakes) the belly thing could be a burn.

*Pictures of the snake, enclosure, and a description of what temps are where would really really help us help you...

Re: Skin Disorder

A description of your enclosure and set up (and photos) would help.
Do you have a thermostat hooked to your heat source?
What is the humidity like in the enclosure?
