Cage help....

So I went to my local Lowe's yesterday looking for material to construct a couple of new cages. I asked a dude with the "red vest" on what I was looking for (melamine) and he looked at me like I was from another planet. He said "we don't really carry anything like that"....I had a short period of time to browse before work, so I didn't get to look very hard.

My questions are: am I asking the wrong question? Would you guys suggest a different material? I would like to conserve weight as much as possible. Did I just get a salesperson who didn't know anything?

These will be a 72"x20"x20" enclosures.

When I built my rack I went to Home Depot. They had an aisle that had melamine clearly marked at the end of it. It was around the hardwood boards / building materials IIRC.

If you're looking to "conserve weight" melamine is NOT the product for you.

mykee....(forgive my ingnorance)....tell me about the pvc. does it come in sheets? easy to work with? I'm not familar w it other than plumbing

I'm not familiar with PVC or PVCX either, I've never used it, but I'm sure if You Google: PVCX, you'll learn a bunch in a very short amount of time.

Use glass and wood like poplar and plywood. I made a 4 foot cage with the wooden top and everything light enough for one person to easily pick up.
