Snake squeaking

I took my carpet python out tonight for no reason in particular other than to hold him, and I noticed that he's making a squeaking sound. He has been eating like a champ and as far as I can tell he's in perfect health. I am just wondering if this is something I should worry about?

Re: Snake squeaking

My BP's have done it on occasion as well. Kinda made me wonder at first . But I was told it could be caused by the scales rubbing. Is there any sign of RI? , no weird breathing or mucus ? If these are not present it should be all ok . Just to be safe I did keep a close eye on mine for a few days and they were and still are very healthy . I would wager he is fine and it is normal.

Re: Snake squeaking

Did he just shed? Sometimes a tiny piece of shed that we can miss gets stuck in their nostrils, causing a little squeak/popping sound.

I always check my animals for noises everytime I get them out. If I hear something, I listen longer to see if it's continuous, which can be a sign of RI. Every once in a while may be shed, dust from bedding, or even a piece of bedding (depending upon what bedding you use).

If it was just one little squeak, I wouldn't worry.

a piece of shed, stuck up a nostril, was the first thing i thought of as well rogue

when coming up to and during a shed, one of my jungle jags, nearly always, whistles and makes a snuffely squeaking noise (for 1 to 3 weeks)

this usually goes away after he's shed

i have read on forums people saying, their snakes skin, can make weird noises,in the days right before they shed

i would give it regular, thorough, health checks for the next few weeks, unless you think it may be down to the shedding proccess

if its shed recently and its a piece of retained shed up a nostril,i find giving them a bath every other night, putting their heads under water, for short periods of time, letting them exhale out their nostrils (you will see, lots of air bubbles).....this usually dislodges the shed

please let us know, if you work out whats causing the noise

cheers shaun

Re: Snake squeaking

Thanks for your replies. The squeak was not constant, but I guess was happening every ~5 seconds or so. My guess would be that it corresponds with an exhale. He is due to shed soon, so I'll keep monitoring him to see what happens to the squeak during the shedding process. Right now he's still eating, but I expect him to stop soon for his next shed.
