Question i think im doing this right.. hope so.. i need some advise please

i have a beautiful female baby ball python... her name is Ilene. ive had her for about 5 days.. anyways i was wondering what substrate would be the best to use? right now we are using aspen shavings because it came with the tank we bought. my fiance and i have read that a peat moss mix would be best, but we would like to get more info about which is best. hope someone can help us.

-thanks

Welcome to the forum! Please read our sSNAKESs forum rules.

I use ReptiBark for mine. It holds humidity nicely.

Aspen CAN (not always) mold with the high humidity required for a Royal Python, i also use reptibark for my one

Re: i think im doing this right.. hope so.. i need some advise please

I change all the time depending on whats on sale but I have found this...
Cocco husk is great for humidity and not to expensive. Best for boas or royals.
Aspen is king of cheap but needs daily misting if used for the above snakes so best for my king and my gopher.
Cypress is cheap and holds moisture well but my king and gopher like to dig and wouldn't in the cypress.
Reptibark is just to expensive. End of story.
So for a royal I would use cocco husk or cypress or a blend of the 2.
