Garter snake.

Found this little fella yesterday. I was beginning to think they had all disappeared completely. Can anyone give me the scientific name?

Re: Garter snake.

Nice looking garter! I'm not 100% sure, but it kinda looks like a Northwestern garter (Thamnophis ordinoides) to me.

After studying photos of NW (Ordinoides) & T. Atratus Hydrophilus closely, the facial structure of the example photos indicate that Joe (Bushsnake) is correct here.

Re: Garter snake.

It's still looking N.W. to me, even vagrans looking, maybe an intergrade of some sort, more than hydrophilus. What are you 2 seeing here that I'm not?

Re: Garter snake.

Nice garter! They are declining here - places I used to find them have been abandoned...not sure if it's territory destruction or pollution...

PS: Anyone know if it's legal to keep wild caught garters in Ontario, Canada? Or do you need to get a licence of some kind?
