species question

Not that it matters to me as I am just happy to have Athena for her being here. But I am curious as to what different people use as means to identify between bci and bcc among others. And further more how you differentiate locality? Is it simply by word of mouth or can you tell by visual markers? I only wonder so that I can better define my snake. I would be perfectly happy without a definition. I have heard of counting scales and how different subspecies have different counts but the numbers intertwine so this isn't 100%. How do you determine?

I'd like to know as well. I was just looking this up the other day to see what my RTB was. All I gathered was, I'm paraphrasing now, when the boa boom happened everything became mixed up and unless you know exactly who bred it and when it may be difficult to find out.

Now most likely I'm 100% wrong on this so, I like to think that I have a very pretty RTB.

Well I honestly wouldn't be remotely surprised by that. I am sure that the lines between subspecies have been blurred in the pet trade. Being that as it is I still think that captive bred is the way to go. Now that the trade is established lets leave the ecosystem alone...

It is extemely hard to tell exactly what they are unless you know where and who it came from. Most boa people that get asked this can tell you little more then its a mix, not sure of what and anything and everything about be in there and in play. Best advice is to start tracing it back as best you can until you get as far as you can go, most times you can't get back the the original pairing but if you do you might find surprises!

I normally do not get involved in these locality debates, I did do a little searching on the patterns. It seems that the patterns are so differnt from snake to snake, that it would be hard to tell a BCC from a BCI. Although if it was accurate this would have been a easy way to tell them apart.
