Talking Found an Eastern Gray...

Who gets excited about frogs? I do!

I'm sure my husband thought he had married a crazy lady last night. We were out on an evening walk, heading past a swamp where the spring peepers and Gray Treefrogs were singing loudly. I had just mentioned to my hubby how I wish I could catch one of them when suddenly I saw a Eastern Gray Treefrog heading across the road toward the deafening chorus. Now, these little guys are my *favorite* native frog. I ran over and scooped her up, acting irrationally excited as I showed my hubby the catch. I so badly wanted to keep her but I knew that couldn't be...I walked into the grass and let her go away from the road.

The rest of our walk I couldn't stop talking about frogs...I was rather giddy after that. You see, they are hard to find around here. The last one I ever saw was probably about ten years ago. That's a long time to wait to see your favorite amphibian.

Unfortunately I didn't have my camera but here's some pics I found on the net so you know what they look like.

The Eastern Gray Treefrog reaches a size of 1.5 to 2 inches. They have lumpy, mottly skin that resembles lichen, and a bright yellow patch on the insides of their back legs. They are masters of disguise, making it almost impossible to find them in their natural habitat. They can change colour from almost black to white, and from grey to bright green. They are indeed an awesome frog.

Those are some really cute ones! I wish you'd gotten pics of the ones you'd found. You should have your camera on you at all times!!

I know! Whenever I have my camera I hardly find anything to photograph, and the time I forget it I always see something cool!
